The virus is actually a variation of a virus already out in circulation, but has had some alterations done to it to make it a little harder to screen for. Many anti-virus programs are not updated enough to know what to look for when it comes time to block this new virus. Make sure your anti-virus software is as up to date as possible.

The virus manifests itself as a seemingly benign hyperlink, but when activated it could infect the computer in use. This is not a new virus, but one of the more newer ways of spreading it. With the monstrous use of instant messenging, it is well worth it to remind people to not trust unknown links and to keep their computers up to date.

We here at The Virus Alert Blog have always recommended not opening and the simple deletion of emails you have received that you do not know the identity of. This is true during the holiday season as well.

Check out these examples of holiday virus emails.

That’s right, a simple email that appears to be from “Santa”… or, stating that “Mrs. Claus is home alone tonight”, can lead to more than the dangers of an unwanted trip to a pornography site, it can lead to a computer virus like the much dreaded Storm virus/worm.

Continue to guard yourself and your computer closely, do not open up emails from anonymous senders or people you don’t know.

Google’s Adsense advertising program is popular with web developers as a way of monetizing the traffic to their websites. It works in a way that the ads provided by Google are placed on the developer’s website and when clicked on the developer gets paid a certain amount of money. The malware redirects the shopper from the ad to a more sinister site. Another thing for the web developer and consumer to watch out for.
