Computer Virus Myth #2
Myth #2:
If the software I buy is sealed or registered, then I don’t have to worry about contracting a computer virus.
False: This is simply not true. Though it is safer to buy new/sealed software, don’t let the presence of shrink wrap automatically assure you that the software is 100% secure. It is possible that a virus or spyware is present on the disk. The same is true for downloading software that is “registered”. Two things can and have happened. First, it could be from a disreputable site and they are using the term “registered” to put people at ease so they are more apt to trust the software they are downloading and secondly a person or company’s servers could have contracted a virus and they could be spreading it through their downloadable software unknowingly.
