Silence Can Be The Worst Reaction To A Computer Virus
One of the worst things we can do when struck by a computer virus is to hide, be silent, stick our heads in the sand. That’s exactly the subject of this news report of a DA who alleges an entire departments network became infected and was then taken down for two weeks before it could be repaired.
During this two week period of network outage the agency released no details, symptoms, or leads on where the virus came from. That’s two weeks where other people or departments linked to that network could’ve been infected, but had they know they could’ve removed themselves from the threat.
This kind of irresponsibility is not something that should be rewarded in a public office or institution, even a private corporation should be held to some sort of public notification standard in a similar case like this.
Stopping the flow of information and not warning those that could still protect themselves is not the answer.
